Rainbow Raccoon Ranch

Part-time job, full-time passion (and dreams)

Jonathan and Stephanie
We are newly married in 2023 with a love for agriculture. Jonathan is a 5th generation row crop farmer on his family farm in west central Iowa while Stephanie has a background in animal science/welfare. We love life in the country and sharing our agricultural passion with others

Jonathan and StephanieWe started to see highlands more and more online and loved their beauty. We have a background of raising livestock, but not any experience with cattle. We did our homework and found that highlands are more docile than commercial cattle making them gentle and easy to work with. They are also easy calvers that require little intervention.

Over the last couple of years we have worked hard to find new pastures for our cattle to graze during the spring, summer, and fall months. Having Highlands has changed the focus of our day-to-day lives and is the reason we moved to our current home, to allow us to live closer to the cattle. It has been a learning curve but we are thankful for friends, veterinarians, and the Scottish Highland breed association for supporting us along the way. Highlands have been so rewarding and offer a way for us to share animal agriculture with others.

We feel lucky every day to be able to follow our passion of working with our cattle into a career.

We are members of both the American Highland Cattle Association and the Heartland Highland Cattle Association.
